Description
The events of the cult Japanese anime, which is considered one of the main classics of cyberpunk, begin with a powerful explosion in the center of Tokyo and the Third World War. More than thirty years after this tragedy, a new capital rises from the ruins - the metropolis of Neo-Tokyo, the atmosphere of which resembles the futuristic Los Angeles from "Blade Runner". Despite the technological breakthrough, the life of the inhabitants of Neo-Tokyo is far from calm. The city suffers from crime, terror, corruption in power and social inequality. Biker gangs form their own subculture and regularly enter into clashes with right-wingers, who brutally suppress any manifestations of rebellion. Later, they will become witnesses to an even darker story, which the government is hiding - about secret experiments on children with telekinetic abilities. This is a large-scale dystopian animation of the 1980s, which inspired a huge number of sci-fi films and TV series - from "The Matrix" to "Strange Wonders", and its aesthetics and ideas influenced music, video games and shaped an entire era. Many viewers do not even suspect that they are familiar with the world of "Akira" through later works, which were created under the influence of anime. The visual level of the film is impressive even almost 40 years after its release - it used about 160 thousand hand-drawn frames, each of which demonstrates incredible attention to detail. Seeing it on the big screen in a new restoration is a special pleasure.
