MN Whispering Mountains
A virus is spreading in Sri Lanka that reportedly makes young people kill themselves. The disease control authority promises to contain the epidemic, claiming it is caused by supernatural forces that can only be defeated with ancient healing rituals. Initially, Jagath Manuwarna's first film as a director looks like a dystopian fantasy captured in precise camera shots. On further reflection, it turns out to be an unsparing reckoning with a time of suppressed protests and the civil war in Sri Lanka.
